STEEL ALLOYS
1018 - Low Carbon Steel Wide variety of mechanical applications. Welding properties are excellent. This is an excellent steel for bending and cold forming & is often used where cold forming stresses are not too severe. 1018 has good brazing and welding properties. It has a smooth - clean - cold drawn (rolled) surface. Successfully used where a moderate amount of machining is contemplated, but not requiring free machining grade.
1045 - Bright Carbon Steel Bar Used extensively by all industry sectors for applications requiring more strength and wear resistance than the low carbon mild steels can provide and the higher strength of the low alloy high tensile steels is not necessary. Typical applications are: Axles Various, Bearings, Bolts, bushings, Connecting Rods, fuse tubes, housings, Hydraulic Clamps and Rams, Pins Various, Rolls Various, Studs, Shafts, sleeves Spindles, valve pushrods, etc.
1144 - Stress Proof Made by a patented process which consists of drawing the bar through a special die under heavy draft, then stress relieving it in a precisely controlled furnace. Users can now get wear-ability without case hardening, strength without heat treating, plus excellent machine-bility & tool life. Other benefits include resistance to fatigue & stress, balanced working & minimum warp & distortion.
12L14 - Cold Rolled Steel Material represents the latest development in the field of free machining carbon steel products and are the fastest machining steels available. 12L14 is essentially resulphurized and rephosphorized screw machine stock to which lead has been added. C12L14 is a lead-bearing cold drawn steel. Applications to which 12L14 are used to take maximum advantage for parts where considerable machining is required, are brushing, inserts, couplings, and hydraulic hose fittings. With good ductility, these grades are suitable for parts involving bending, crimping, or riveting. Since 12L14 is an extraordinary machining steel it has become the favorite carbon metal for machining - especially on light weight lathes. It offers inherent ductility combined with finer surface quality. 12L14 has a smooth cold finish (rolled) surface. |

4130 - Low Carbon Steel Alloy These low-alloy steels can be hardened by heat treatment. In the annealed condition afford good workability. Frequently used for aircraft structural parts. Also for engine mounts, Bourdon springs, water tubes, high-pressure instrument lines, cable connectors, aircraft studs, bushings, radar antennas and supports, drill shanks, and valve pushrods.
4140 - High Tensile Steel Used extensively in most industry sectors for a wide range of applications such as: Adapters, Arbors, Axle Shafts, badminton racquet handles, Bolts, Crankshafts, Connection Rods, Chuck Bodies, Collets, Conveyor Pins & Rolls, drill-shank tubing, electrical connectors, Ejector Pins, Forks, Gears, Golf club shafts, Guide Rods, hand tools, Hydraulic Shafts & Parts, key sockets, Lathe Spindles, Logging Parts, Milling Spindles, Motor Shafts, Nuts, Pinch Bars, Pins Various, Pinions, Pump Shafts, Rams, Sockets, Spindles, Sprockets, Studs, tamping rods, tufting needles, Tool Holders, Torsion Bars, Worms, are typical applications.
4340 - High Tensile Steel High strength and toughness in relatively large sections. Pre hardened and tempered 4340 can be further surface hardened by flame or induction hardening and by nitriding. Used in most industry sectors for applications requiring higher tensile/yield strength than 4140 can provide. Typical applications are: Heavy Duty Shafts, Gears, Axles, Spindles, Couplings, Pins etc.
8620 Medium Carbon Steel Alloys One of the most popular and widely used carborizing steels available. Used extensively by all industry sectors for light to medium stressed components and shafts requiring high surface wear resistance with reasonable core strength and impact properties. Typical uses are: Arbors, Bearings, Bushings, Cam Shafts, Differential Pinions, Guide Pins, King Pins, Pistons Pins, Splined Shafts, Ratchets, Sleeves etc. |
